Yesterday was the Northwest Regional Acting Competition for the state of Oregon( It's for high school students like myself). I competed against 18-ish people in solo novice acting from my region. At the end of the day, there is three finalists and one state qualifier. It's a lot like the final four in American Idol or something, the state qualifier is the "American Idol." Well, before yesterday I hadn't ever performed a monologue in my life even though I've been involved in theater since the third grade.
I performed in three rounds for three judges and was scored. At the end of the day, all of the finalists/state qualifies are announced by our state director, CJ Reid. The categories are: Solo novice and experienced acting, duo novice and experience acting for comedy/drama, group acting, solo musical, duo musical and group musical.
There are usually two maybe three state qualifiers in each category, except the one I was in. Only the top 1% can compete at state.
My name was announced as that state qualifier. So in two months, I will go down to Eugene early in the morning to compete and once the rest of my troupe gets there, I'll join them.
I was physced enough as it is for state (or Thespian Conference AKA Thes Con). But now I am even more excited! I'm really surprised but proud of myself. The next two months will consist of more character work and I will try my best to get even more of a connection/use the notes my judges gave with my monologues.
